Drishyam 3's Rs 177 Cr Weekend Storm Forces Bollywood Release Shake-Up

Sunday, October 4, 2026 — the Drishyam 3 tsunami is doing exactly what everyone feared, and Bollywood is already rearranging its calendar to survive it. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion has crossed Rs 115.5 crore nett in India in just two days and raced past Rs 177 crore worldwide, becoming the third-biggest Hindi opener of all time. The first casualty of its run is already confirmed: Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's spy comedy Udta Teer has blinked, moved off October 9, and found shelter on October 23 — the same date a real-life couple, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, will mark their first post-marriage release with the romantic thriller Tu Hai Meri Kiran.

All box-office numbers in this report are trade-tracker estimates (Sacnilk, BoxOfficeIndia24), not studio-official figures, and live Day 3 tracking was still underway at the time of writing.

Day 2: Rs 53.5 crore Saturday, Rs 177 crore worldwide in 48 hours

The Gandhi Jayanti release opened to Rs 62 crore nett on Friday and followed it with Rs 53.5 crore nett on Saturday — a modest 13.7% drop, with screens running at roughly 46–48% occupancy, according to Sacnilk. The two-day India nett total stands at Rs 115.5 crore (Rs 138.6 crore gross), and with overseas trade sources reporting roughly $4 million (~Rs 38.5 crore) internationally, the worldwide total touched Rs 177.1 crore in two days.

The milestones are piling up. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in a single weekend, beat the entire lifetime collection of the 2015 original Drishyam (Rs 107 crore) in 48 hours, and outgrossed last year's Sikandar (Rs 176 crore). Trade reports place its Rs 62-crore-plus opening as the third-biggest opening day ever for a Hindi film, behind only Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Jawan.

Sunday is live and storming: live tracking showed around Rs 40 crore already on the IST clock by mid-morning, with overseas legs yet to close. If the day holds, Drishyam: The Conclusion will finish its opening weekend somewhere between Rs 190 and 200 crore worldwide — a figure very few Hindi films have ever touched in three days. Monday's Gandhi Jayanti holiday extension effect, with many offices and schools observing the long weekend, is expected to keep footfalls strong.

Why is it working? The finale of the Hindi franchise — written and directed by Abhishek Pathak, bringing back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant, with new entrants Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj and a Saurabh Shukla cameo — is landing with both the family audience that grew up with the franchise and a young crowd discovering the climax as a standalone thriller. First-day reviews called it the best film of the Hindi trilogy, and word of mouth on Saturday carried the multiplexes.

One clarification for the searches: this is the Hindi Drishyam: The Conclusion starring Ajay Devgn. The Malayalam original with Mohanlal, directed by Jeethu Joseph, released earlier — on May 21 — and itself crossed Rs 117 crore in three days and Rs 225 crore in twelve days worldwide. Two different films, same tsunami of a title.

Udta Teer retreats: October 9 to October 23

Trade watchers predicted a postponement, and on October 2 the makers confirmed it: Udta Teer moves from October 9 to October 23. The espionage comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan — the directorial debut of Aakash Kaushik (writer of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Thank God), jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment — was tracking decently after its September 23 trailer. But with Drishyam 3 expected to dominate screens for at least two more weeks, the producers made what their statement called "a smart and strategic theatrical call" for a cleaner release window "instead of compromising on screens in a suddenly crowded marketplace."

The film's premise is its biggest selling point: Ayushmann plays a proficient Pakistani spy who crosses into India to infiltrate its security systems, loses his memory after a mission, develops nationalistic feelings for India, joins the country's counter-terrorism unit — and unknowingly becomes a double agent. The supporting cast reads like a character-actor festival: Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe, plus the late Mukul Dev. The trailer was cleared with a UA 16+ rating and has been drawing laughs for its train fights and border-pillar gags.

The move puts Udta Teer head-to-head with one other film on October 23 — which brings us to the weekend's most intriguing new announcement.

Tu Hai Meri Kiran: Sonakshi and Zaheer's twisted first as a married couple

Real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are heading back to the screen together — in a romantic thriller. Tu Hai Meri Kiran had its first look unveiled on October 1, with the tagline asking: "Where would you draw the line between LOVE and OBSESSION?" ("She found a connection; he found an obsession.") Written and directed by Karan Rawal and produced by Vishal Rana under Echelon Productions, with Pam Studios and And Productions attached, the film releases in cinemas on October 23, 2026 — the same Friday as Udta Teer.

This is the couple's first film together after their marriage in June 2024 (they previously co-starred in 2022's Double XL), which is why the announcement travelled fast on social media. The marketing is unusually old-school: instead of a digital drop, the 2-minute-17-second trailer (CBFC U/A 16+, cleared September 16) played first in theatres from October 2, attached to Drishyam The Conclusion, Digger, Verity and holdover releases, with the online release following days later.

Fans of 90s Bollywood will catch the title's nod: Tu Hai Meri Kiran echoes the famous song from Darr (1993), where Juhi Chawla played Kiran — though the makers are clear the story and treatment are entirely new. On the work front, Sonakshi recently played a lawyer in the Prime Video film System, while Zaheer's last screen outing was Ruslaan. The film marks a deliberate shift for both into darker, obsessive territory.

October's crowded scorecard: who goes where now

With Drishyam 3 holding screens like a vice, here is how the month's battlefield now looks:

DateFilmStatus
Oct 2Drishyam: The ConclusionReleased — Rs 177.1 cr worldwide in 2 days (trade estimate)
Oct 9Aadarsha Kutumbam (Telugu, Venkatesh)Sticking to date — trailer Oct 6, bookings Oct 7
Oct 16Prahaar; Nayyi NavelliBoth hold — the next big Hindi Friday
Oct 23Udta Teer (Ayushmann–Sara)Moved from Oct 9 to dodge Drishyam 3
Oct 23Tu Hai Meri Kiran (Sonakshi–Zaheer)New announcement — romantic thriller, theatrical trailer from Oct 2

Why it matters: Udta Teer's retreat is a textbook case of how a single blockbuster reshapes an entire month. The October 9 slot now belongs largely to the Telugu family entertainer Aadarsha Kutumbam — producer Naga Vamsi has confirmed it will release without premieres on October 9, with the trailer on October 6 and advance bookings from October 7. Meanwhile October 16's Prahaar vs Nayyi Navelli face-off, and October 23's Udta Teer vs Tu Hai Meri Kiran clash, mean the aftershocks of the Drishyam weekend will be felt all month. If Drishyam: The Conclusion closes its first week anywhere near Rs 230–250 crore, it enters the conversation for the biggest Hindi grosser of the year.
