Tu Hai Meri Kiran Trailer Out + Karan Johar's 2028 Slate: Oct 6 Bollywood Wrap

October 6, 2026 — the trailer of Tu Hai Meri Kiran, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal's twisted romantic thriller, is being unveiled today after a theatrical-first rollout in cinemas since October 2. Meanwhile Karan Johar has redrawn the 2028 calendar with a four-film mega-slate, and Ram Gopal Varma has ignited a fierce debate with his take on the Janhvi Kapoor deepfake row. Here is Showbiz Daily's complete October 6 Bollywood wrap.

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, the real-life married couple headlining the romantic thriller Tu Hai Meri Kiran, whose trailer is being unveiled on October 6, 2026 ahead of its October 23 release

Tu Hai Meri Kiran trailer is out: love, obsession and a gamble that skipped the internet

The trailer of Tu Hai Meri Kiran, starring real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, is being unveiled today — and the rollout is half the story. Echelon Productions premiered the 2-minute-17-second trailer exclusively in cinemas on October 2 (CBFC: U/A 16+), attaching it to the year's biggest weekend — Drishyam: The Conclusion, Digger, Verity — with the digital unveiling following today.

The October 1 first-look poster set the terms bluntly: Sonakshi and Zaheer seated at a table — she looks away while he watches her intently — under the tagline "She found a connection. He found an obsession." Sonakshi's caption posed the film's central question: where do you draw the line between LOVE and OBSESSION? The plot stays under wraps; the genre is a romantic thriller of love, mystery and suspense.

The credits matter here. Tu Hai Meri Kiran is written and directed by Karan Rawal — his feature directorial debut after the short Half Full and assistant-director stints on The Dirty Picture and Veere Di Wedding. It is produced by Vishal Rana, Sarvesh Goyal, Ashwani Kumar, Manoj Darak and Nrupal Patel for Echelon Productions with PAM Studios and AND Productions, and arrives in cinemas on 23 October 2026, as announced.

Then there is the casting story, which is genuinely unusual. Sonakshi and Zaheer — married in June 2024 after years of keeping their relationship private — are playing a couple navigating the border between devotion and fixation. This is their second on-screen collaboration after 2022's Double XL (plus the Blockbuster music video), but their first film together as a married couple — and the first dark romantic thriller for either of them. Sonakshi was recently seen as a lawyer in Prime Video's System; Zaheer's last appearance was in Ruslaan.

Why it matters: the title is a deliberate wink at Bollywood history — it borrows from the iconic song associated with Darr (1993), where Juhi Chawla played Kiran opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol. The new film's story is entirely its own, but the echo is intentional: a film about obsession wearing a love song's title. Add the theatrical-first trailer gamble — a confident big-screen move almost nobody attempts anymore — and Tu Hai Meri Kiran is October's most interesting experiment. If the trailer lands, October 23 becomes a three-way clash to watch.

Karan Johar's 2028 battle plan: RN Kao, Gadadhari Bheem, Radha Krishna — and a Kartik Aaryan fantasy

Per a trade scoop, Dharma Productions is taking three big-budget films on floors in 2027 for theatrical release in 2028 — the most ambitious slate the banner has ever attempted.

Karan Johar, head of Dharma Productions, which has locked a mega 2028 theatrical slate including RN Kao, Gadadhari Bheem and Radha Krishna

First up is RN Kao — the epic espionage film on Rameshwar Nath Kao, the founding chief of India's R&AW. Dharma first announced this project in January 2020, then went silent for six years; it is now back with a locked date of 11 August 2028, the Independence Day weekend. Based on Nitin Gokhale's 2019 book Gentleman Spymaster and developed with Leo Media Collective, it will trace the road from 1955 to 1971 — the need for an external intelligence agency, R&AW's 1968 formation, and its first mission in the 1971 war. Cast and director are still under wraps, though insiders point to an A-lister lead.

Second is Gadadhari Bheem — a modern mythological superhero spectacle rooted in the Mahabharata, directed by Abhishek Varman with a locked script, now moving into casting. Third is Radha Krishna — an epic, action-mounted love story of Krishna and Radha.

And there is a fourth card: an untitled mytho-creature film with director Sandeep Modi, starring Kartik Aaryan — fresh off his National Award for Chandu Champion. Beyond 2028, Dharma's 2027 calendar already holds Lag Jaa Gale and Nagzilla, while Vishkanya (Rajkummar Rao, Pratibha Ranta) goes on floors this December — alongside Prosit Roy's next with Lakshya and Vedika Pinto and the long-gestating Dostana 2. (Slate details are per trade reports and banner announcements; dates may shift.)

Why it matters: this is Dharma going full theatrical while the industry still argues about the big screen's future — espionage, mythology, superhero spectacle and epic romance, all built for cinemas. If even half of this slate lands on schedule, 2028 is Dharma's biggest year ever.

The Chuttamalle deepfake debate: RGV asks the uncomfortable question

The day's darker story: an AI-morphed video built from the song "Chuttamalle" — from Janhvi Kapoor's Telugu debut Devara: Part 1 — has been circulating online in explicit, degrading form. (We will not describe or link it.) Condemnation was swift: Janhvi spoke on consent; Jr NTR called it "disgusting, sick and shameless" and warned of legal action; Vijay Deverakonda, Chiranjeevi and Khushbu Sundar also reacted.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who questioned the industry's public reaction to the AI-morphed Chuttamalle video involving Janhvi Kapoor

Then Ram Gopal Varma entered the chat — and reframed the argument. In posts on X, RGV argued the wave of celebrity condemnation had backfired: "The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in is to publicise and thereby make crores and crores of people see the objectionable link. The smart thing would have been to concentrate on catching the perpetrator and publicise that." He added that the reactions brought "enormous attention to the victim's identity and the offensive content which is also a crime" — and in a separate post: "When you can't WIN, you should JOIN. If you fight A I, it will ERASE you out of EXISTENCE."

Why it matters: nobody here disagrees the video is vile — the disagreement is tactical, and it is a genuinely hard question. Does condemnation by the industry's biggest names expose the problem, or hand the offender the audience they wanted? RGV's provocation stings because both can be true at once. What is not in doubt: creating and circulating non-consensual morphed content is a crime, and Jr NTR's legal warning signals this one will be pursued, not just tweeted about.

The through-line of October 6: Bollywood is thinking in bets — a trailer that skipped the internet for cinemas, a 2028 slate built entirely for the big screen, and a debate over whether the internet can be fought or only joined. None of these wagers is boring, and that is exactly what the industry needed this week.
